Pat Robertson Shows His True Colors – Again

Pat Robertson, the Chairman of the Christian Broadcasting Network and former Presidential candidate, recently told viewers of his 700 Club television show that it is okay to divorce a spouse who has Alzheimer’s Disease.

One of the signs of the end of the age mentioned in the Bible is that the love of many will grow cold (Matthew 24:12). Pat Robertson’s latest controversial statement is a reflection of this. Personally, I have never had to deal with a loved one or relative having Alzheimer’s. For those who have, I am sure it is a very difficult ordeal that offers no easy answers. But, this is where God’s agape love can often be demonstrated the most. If anything, Robertson should be encouraging his viewers to remain faithful to their suffering spouses. This is how we display God’s love through sickness and health, ’til death do us part.

In response to a caller seeking advice for a friend having an affair after his spouse was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Robertson tells his studio audience and the viewers watching around the world,

“I know it sounds cruel, but if he’s going to do something, he should divorce her and start all over again, but make sure she has custodial care and somebody looking after her.”

You’re absolutely right, Pat, it does sound cruel! It sounds similar to the attitude of the Pharisees when they asked Jesus, Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” In response, Jesus said, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.” It sounds to me like Pat Robertson is seeking to justify divorce in much the same way and because of the hardness of his own heart. Remember, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45)

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:1

Paul encouraged us to imitate God in our love for one another. Marriage is one of the most profound and sacred demonstrations of this type of sacrificial love. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul, under the inspiration of God, writes, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.” Robertson’s encouragement to leave a spouse in a time when love, patience, and understanding is most necessary is absolutely deplorable.

I guess nothing should surprise anyone about this wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is the same man who called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, saying,

“You know, I don’t know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it. It’s a whole lot cheaper than starting a warWe have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability. We don’t need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It’s a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.”

From this brief statement we see Pat Robertson advocating war and murder. And this is a man who claims to be a follower of Christ, who said to love our enemies and to do good to those who persecute us? To add insult to injury, he adds to his response to the caller, “Get some ethicist besides me to give you the answer.” And who might this ethicist be? If Pat Robertson is the man of God he claims to be, then he should be able to provide an ethical answer from the scriptures he claims to know and live by.

Here are some more infamous quotes from Pat Robertson to demonstrate the true condition of his heart and his pseudo brand of conservative Christianity.

”I want to say it again, and again, and again: Islam is not a religion, it’s a political system meant on — bent on world domination, not a religion. It masquerades as a religion, but the religion covers a worldwide attempt to exercise power and to subjugate the world into their way of thinking.”

”There is no such thing as separation of church and state in the Constitution. It is a lie of the Left and we are not going to take it anymore.”

”How can there be peace when drunkards, drug dealers, communists, atheists, New Age worshipers of Satan, secular humanists, oppressive dictators, greedy money changers, revolutionary assassins, adulterers, and homosexuals are on top?”

“It may be a blessing in disguise. … Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it. Haitians were originally under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it’s a deal. Ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other.”

It sounds to me as if Robertson has a problem with anyone being on top who is not like himself. His statements are full of malice for other races, religions and anyone who is a threat to his version of Christianity. He and his fellow Dominionists are bent on taking over this country by hook or by crook. Besides, who needs the love of God when you’ve got wealth, media influence, power and political clout? Like the Pharisees of old, Robertson has continually demonstrated his hardness of heart. Every time he opens his mouth he flaunts the hypocrisy that so many chide him for. After statements like these, who can take him serious as a “man of God?” Jesus said that you would know his disciples by their fruit. It appears to me that Pat Robertson’s fruit has grown rotten and he is not ashamed to let everyone know it.
