When Kingdoms Collide–Part 1: The Wise Shall Understand

There are scores of individuals writing and speaking about the end times and the Second Coming of Christ, myself included, but is all of this beneficial? What should we, as believers be doing at this time? What is God’s purpose in all of this chaos, confusion and distress of nations that we are witnessing? Many are preparing to be taken from the earth in a secret rapture, where they hope to escape all of the terrible events prophesied for the end of the age, but is this belief really accurate? If not, why would a loving God subject those who love him and the world at-large to a time of anguish greater than any since nations first came into existence (Daniel 12:1–NLT)?

This series, “When Kingdoms Collide,” will attempt to answer these questions and more, so that we as Christians may no longer be “children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love…” (Ephesians 4:14-15–NKJV).

The Wise Shall Understand

Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:7

How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. Proverbs 16:16

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… Hosea 4:6

Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?” And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. Daniel 12:8-10

As you can glean from the preceding verses, God places the utmost importance on obtaining knowledge, wisdom and understanding. These three qualities make up a trinity of divine order and protection in the life of the believer. When we are properly focused on our relationship with God, we will be blessed tremendously and prepared for every good work. Consider what Yahweh (God) said to Moses about the appointment of Bezalel (meaning “in the shadow [protection] of God”) as a skilled artisan in creating handcrafted designs for the tabernacle.

Then the Lord said to Moses, “See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills – to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of crafts. Exodus 31:1-5

Because God himself is all-wise, knowing and completely full of understanding, he has determined that those who are born of his Spirit would share these same attributes. This is the only way we can have true fellowship with our loving Creator. As much as I loved my children when they were babies, our communication was limited by their lack of knowledge and understanding mature conversation. As they grew in knowledge, wisdom and understanding, our communication and fellowship has continued to increase and the bond of our relationship has grown stronger. Those who abort this process for whatever reason will be destroyed (Hosea 4:6). Without the knowledge of God, we lack his divine protection and guidance and are easy prey for the enemy of our souls. The enemy has but one mission; to steal, kill and destroy! If we are not seeking knowledge, wisdom, and understanding at all costs, we may be his next victim.

The prophet Daniel was told that in the time of the end knowledge would increase. I believe the purpose of increasing knowledge serves two purposes. For those in Christ, the mysteries of scripture and prophecies that have long been hidden and misinterpreted are now being revealed. We are seeing a much clearer picture of the visions that Daniel and John could barely understand when they penned the prophetic books of Daniel and Revelation. The fog of apprehension is being lifted for those who have kept their eyes on the prize. We can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is why the Messenger sent to inform Daniel about the end of the age, told him that the wise shall understand. It is God himself who is lifting the veil to give strength and encouragement to those who will be his messengers in this time of gross darkness and apostasy. He is placing His seal on those who are watching, praying and doing what he has commanded. He is also darkening the minds of those who are not faithful in their pursuit of His most precious prize; the knowledge of Himself. He has sent a strong delusion to those who do not love the truth so that they would instead believe lies. God is just and will reward each man according to what they have done.

The scriptures consistently paint a message of contrasting themes. There is great light and truth being revealed to those who are intimately knowledgeable of God in this time of sorrow as Daniel foretells. Conversely, the Messenger tells Daniel that the wicked would not understand the true meaning of what is taking place as the time of Christ’s second appearance nears. They will instead be plunged into deeper depths of darkness and will continue to do wickedly. They will also continue to increase in knowledge, but it will be used for evil purposes.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. (2 Tim 3:1-5)

All one has to do to confirm the truth of the preceding verses is to read a newspaper or turn on the television, or perhaps take a look in the mirror.

While those awaiting Christ’s appearing to usher in a kingdom of righteousness, justice and peace there is another stark contrast that Daniel is shown in a vision. Daniel sees a glimpse of the coming lawless one who will rule in the one world Antichrist government and will understand sinister schemes.

I believe the understanding of these sinister schemes applies generally to all unredeemed men. What was called a conspiracy theory just a decade ago, is now believed by many common people as fact. People are beginning to accept that the sinister schemes they once thought were myths are indeed true. There are a plethora of sites across the Internet documenting the wicked schemes of the so-called “elite” and their plan of world domination. People are awakening to the fact that the world is not what they thought and those they once trusted are being revealed for the charlatans and criminals they really are. But, without the light of Christ and the spiritual knowledge that guides one to safety, they are certainly more knowledgeable, but still unprepared to resist the clever planning of those under Satanic influence to create a new and improved Tower of Babel across the whole earth.

The kingdom of darkness is increasing over the majority of people on earth. The Kingdom of Light remains hidden to all but a relative few chosen vessels intent on keeping the oil burning in their lamps. These two kingdoms will eventually come to a cataclysmic confrontation. There will be no middle ground. There will be no place to hide. You will fervently believe in one side or the other.

Knowledge Has Increased

God is not the author of confusion. He does everything according to his supremely wise counsel. So why is the world plunging into an oppressive world government with one global religion and financial system?

By now, the people of the world have been desensitized to talk of the Second Coming and the predictions for the end of the age. There have been scores of movies made, predictions failed, false prophets of doom and gloom rebuffed, and endless talk about doomsday scenarios for years. Scoffers have appeared, just as foretold and have even mocked the idea of Christ’s existence, let alone his Second Coming. Because man has rejected truth, they have bought into the age-old conspiracy that a small group of “elite” men and women can rule the planet much more efficiently than the God of Christianity. Whether through New Age philosophy, secular humanism, or the world’s false religions, men across the globe are being deceived into believing that they can obtain world peace without the Prince of Peace. With the threat of a global conflict on the horizon we are hearing the cries for Peace, Peace more frequently. Will men be more ready to accept a global form of government that promises peace and safety after millions more innocent people die in another global war?

Like the plot that was foiled by God in the plain of Shinar, unrepentant man has never relinquished his desire to build a Tower of Babel. God knew the creative and destructive power of sinful men when they would bind together under a common purpose. This is why he scattered the tribes of the earth across the globe and gave them each their own distinct languages and cultures. It was simply not time for this to happen yet, but we are inching closer to the hour of fulfillment. Almost all of the obstacles that God placed in man’s way to achieve global unity without him have now been overcome. Previous problems with transportation and communication have been made obsolete. Today, we can use programs like Skype to communicate with someone on the other side of the globe. The President can now issue important warnings to millions of U.S. citizens directly on their cell phones.

All you have to do to see evidence of man’s increasing knowledge of sinister schemes is to look at how the weapons of warfare have progressed in the last century. We have “advanced” from once sophisticated, but now considered rudimentary weapons like canons and tanks, to extremely high-tech, unmanned drones and missile systems that can be directed from thousands of miles away to hit a precise target. During the first World Wars, it was necessary to have troops fight battles on the ground, today, this is optional. Satellites orbit outer space and are able to send pinpoint accurate locations of almost everything on earth. You can probably see your house from a satellite from if you search for it on Google Earth. The technological achievements of the last 50 years are truly astounding. The last 20 years are astronomical. There is no doubt that knowledge has increased. But, will it be used for good or evil?

Being Skillful In War

The flood of deception that Jesus said would happen has engulfed the whole world and sadly, much of the church as well. It is believed that the ancient Chinese military general and philosopher Sun Tzu penned the following impactful statement.

All warfare is based on deception.

Whether you are aware of it or not, you are involved in a war. Like Simon Peter, Satan, our adversary has asked permission from God to sift his people like wheat. He has waged a very successful offensive on the minds and hearts of believers everywhere through his cunning, deceitful plotting and infiltration of the church through false teachers and prophets. This campaign of dissimulation emanates from our pulpits, government offices and political figures, media, the entertainment industry, the business and financial sector, educational systems, and even our health care system as man turns to destructive drugs for the health of his body. In short, the whole world is under the influence of this deception just as the scripture teaches (1 John 5:19).

In warfare, it is a grave mistake to underestimate one’s opponent. From personal observation and the witness of the scriptures, it is evident that many believers give no thought at all to Satan and his tactics. It is very easy to be conquered when one is ignorant of his enemy. Paul advises us to put on the whole armor of God so that we can withstand the devil’s schemes. Nothing less will do if we wish to avoid falling into one of the myriad of traps he has set for us. It is not good enough to wield a sword without having a shield for defense. Likewise, it is foolish to go into battle without protective headgear, though one might have everything else in place. All of the equipment is necessary to be successful in battle. Too many believers have laid down one or more of these weapons and have been seriously wounded in the conflict.

While the passage about the armor of the Lord in Ephesians 6 is generally well known in the church, there is one fact that is often overlooked. Each of the weapons listed from verses 14-17 are defensive weapons except one, the sword of the spirit, or God’s word. We have been equipped with many items as a defense against the enemy, but only one to use directly against Him. Is this not how Jesus waged war when he was tempted by Satan? Every time the adversary tried to get Jesus to veer from the path the Father was leading him to, he rebuked him by saying, “it is written.” It was his knowledge, wisdom and understanding of his Father’s will that allowed him to overcome Satan’s cunning tactics. This is a lifelong process of learning. Once we get past the elementary teachings of scripture, we are to move on to the weightier matters. No matter what we think we know, there is always a treasure trove of wisdom waiting to be discovered, because we cannot reach the depth of our Father’s understanding in this lifetime.

Wisdom, as mentioned in Proverbs 4:7, can be defined as skill in war. Understanding can simply be defined as discernment or skill in insight. Knowledge can be better understood as intimacy or familiarity. It is our intimacy with God and insight into His divine nature and purpose that gives us the needed skill to be successful in battle. When we have walked with God we began to trust him more and more as he proves himself faithful to us. We grow in his knowledge and grace and come to a point where we understand who He is and who we are in Him. It is this sense of knowing that becomes as second nature the more we walk with Him. It is how we are able to slay the Goliaths in our lives just as David did as a little shepherd boy.

In preparing for his confrontation with Goliath, David rejected the helmet, sword and coat of mail Saul gave to him because he had not had a chance to prove them! He properly discerned that they were of men and not of God. You see, having weapons mean nothing if we do not have the skill or confidence in wielding them. Instead, David simply took his shepherd’s staff, sling and five smooth stones onto the field of battle. Not only did David resist using the weapons and armor Saul gave him, he mocked those of Goliath, the herculean man of war who frightened the entire army of Israel saying, “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel” (I Samuel 17:45-46).

David, like Bezalel rested in the protection of God, knowing in whom he believed. Having slayed both a lion and a bear in protecting his father’s flock of sheep, David was confident that God was with him and understood that He honors those whose trust is solely in Him, not carnal weapons of war.

Far too many believers have already lost the battle by believing the enemy’s deception. Just as Goliath and the Philistine army paralyzed the armies of Israel through fear because they lacked the knowledge, wisdom and understanding of the Most High, Satan, through his agents of deception, have disarmed much of the Christian community. Many are storing up weapons and building bunkers in anticipation of fighting the agents of the inevitable global government. They believe in God and guns and are prepared to maintain their “freedom” by any means necessary including killing. Others are attempting to fight against these wicked schemes through political and social means. They are hard at work campaigning for some presidential candidate or writing letters to their congressman about some egregious violation of their rights. Some have been completely blinded and believe the world will just continue on as it always has for the foreseeable future. They are totally unaware of the sinister schemes that are being plotted against them. In their lukewarm state, they will not have a clue what is taking place when the pieces of the puzzle all come together.

All of these “types” will not be able to withstand the fierceness of the coming Beast kingdom upon the earth. Those who try to fight with the sword will end up being overcome by the same methods. Revelation 13: 10 states, “Whoever leads into captivity will himself go into captivity; if anyone slays with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Herein is [the call for] the patience and the faith and fidelity of the saints (God’s people)” (Amplified). It will take patience that must be worked out over time in one’s character to resist the temptation to fight our oppressors. Christians especially in America are turning to the political arena for their salvation instead of relying on the King of Kings. Those who play political games to work the system in their favor and avoid suffering will be devoured by the same system that will turn against them (Rev 17:16). Those who are caught totally unaware will be completely overcome and will be ashamed when the Bridegroom returns to receive his bride.

Our War is Not Against Man

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12

We cannot fight a spiritual war with physical weapons. Our true opponent resides in spiritual form in the high places of darkness in the heavenlies and the kingdoms of this world. He is working secret deals with the leaders of nations as I write. He is whispering lies to people greedy for power and money so that they will do his bidding. He is promising them rulership in his soon coming physical world kingdom only to betray them later on. He is bringing all the world’s religions into unity to eventually receive him as their false messiah.

Though Satan will manifest himself physically, the Antichrist spirit is already in the world. Those who possess it wittingly or unwittingly are helping to bring about the Beast kingdom prophesied in Revelation. Make no mistake, it is God’s will that this wicked kingdom come to pass. It is part of his master plan that was conceived before time began. There is no point trying to fight against it. Our energies should be placed on what God would have us do once it is here. If we are solely focused on resisting the enemy we will miss the mission God would have us fulfill. There is always a light in the darkness. We are to be that light. We were born for such a time as this, just as Queen Esther in her role in helping to save the Jewish people under the tyrannical reign of King Ahasuerus.

Our war is to be waged silently by watching, praying and only doing what the Spirit of the Lord is leading us to do. We must guard against presumption, because what seems right to us may not be how God would lead us. It didn’t make sense to any of the disciples that Jesus was led to his death during his first appearance. It may not make sense to us that God is seemingly leading us to to the valley of the shadow of death. However, we must prepare to endure hardships as good soldiers in the Lord. What might seem like an impossible situation could be the opportunity for God to demonstrate his wonder-working power in our lives and those within our sphere of influence. God still desires that all men come to repentance and salvation. Who knows who he might pluck out of the enemy’s hand through our faithful obedience. Through all the ordeals Joseph suffered, he ended up a great leader who was able to rescue his people from famine by being faithful to God in the face of extreme adversity.

As the apostle Paul mentions, it is not God’s will for us to be ignorant of Satan’s devices or of the times and seasons that we live. God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. We must always pray that we would be worthy to escape all the terrible things that will soon come to pass as a result of man choosing Satan over God and rebellion over obedience. The time of tribulation will serve as the great sifting of the wheat from the chaff; the sheep from the goats. We must seek knowledge, wisdom and understanding to be able to wage war successfully that all the earth may know that there is a God in the Heavens and that his Kingdom is soon to come.
